Engage with Ethics - January 2021

Welcome to 2021! A new year brings exciting opportunities to engage in ethics at UCCS for students, educators, and our community. Have you participated in a DFEI event or activity yet? Make 2021 the year to engage in ethics!

The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at UCCS College of Business supports principle-based ethics education on the UCCS campus and at eleven higher education schools in southern Colorado. We can reach up to 60,000 students! Business leaders and alumni share insights on ethics with students, serve a vital role in judging ethics competitions, and join us to explore ethical issues relevant to their organization. Educators develop innovative approaches to apply principle-based ethics. The DFEI at UCCS partners with community and professional organizations to facilitate ethical discussions on topics such as cybersecurity ethics, ethics and compliance, and responses to ethical dilemmas of health issues in Colorado.

Join us at one or more of the upcoming events, such as the community panel on February 4th, Emerging Ethical Dilemmas in Our Community: How should we respond? We also plan to facilitate a panel to discuss Ethics in Medicine, Criminal Justice, and Business: Competing Perspectives.

DFEI continues to host the ethics roundtable series for educators to explore creative ideas for integrating the DFEI principles in disciplines such as career development, cybersecurity, criminal justice, health and hygiene, sport management, and more!

Students can demonstrate their ethical leadership and principle-based ethic decision-making by competing in the NASBA SCPT Ethics in Action Video Competition and the UCCS/SCEC Ethics Essay Contest. Both opportunities offer students monetary awards. UCCS students can also join the StudentCPT to explore ethical leadership opportunities through engaging virtual meetings, community service projects, speakers, and earning an Ethical Leadership Certification from NASBA SCPT.

On April 22nd and 23rd, we will host the second Southern Colorado Ethics Summit in a virtual format to focus on “The Ethics Premium”. This exciting event will be invitation only for students, educators, and business/community leaders from UCCS and our Southern Colorado Ethics Consortium schools. We look forward to many interesting ethical discussions with keynote speakers, panels, and small groups.

Let’s make 2021 the year to make a difference on our campus and community by embodying the DFEI Principles of integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law, and viability!

Sincerely,

Tracy Gonzalez-Padron, Ph.D.
