Engage in Ethics - May 2022
Engage in Ethics - May 2022
Dear UCCS community,
Let us celebrate the end of another academic year of engaging in ethics in southern Colorado!
Congratulations to all students graduating this month. Many students and USAFA cadets that participated in ethics competitions and events will be bringing ethical principles into the workforce. I want to especially recognize Delaney Gust, a UCCS student ethics ambassador who graduates this August, DFEI at UCCS student ethics assistant, and recipient of the Campus Being a Difference Award. We wish Delaney and all students a bright future ahead.
Looking back, we find examples of ethics in action even though the academic year started with a mask mandate and ramping up after a year and half of remote learning.
- The week of the 2021 Ethics Champion Orientation and Welcome Dinner on August 12 was the start of the mask mandate at UCCS. Even so, there were 72 champions, administrators, and guests gathering to celebrate the incoming 10 UCCS Ethics Fellows, 19 SCEC Ethics Champions and 7 UCCS Student Ethics Ambassadors.
- Western Colorado University piloted an interdisciplinary ethics boot camp with business and engineering students.
- UCCS had a hybrid ethics roundtable in October on Ethics & Compliance, and then moved all ethics roundtables to virtual, offering ideas on ethics education with music, professional ethics, human resources. Leadership, heritage management, nursing, and social work.
- The UCCS Ethics Case competition in October included: 48 students from Adams State University, Odyssey Early College & Career Options, Pikes Peak Community College, Trinidad State College, UCCS, USAFA, and Western Colorado University. Winners included: 2-Year track: 1st Place Pikes Peak Community College; 2nd Place Trinidad State College; 4-Year Track: 1st Place UCCS; 2nd Place Western State University; 3rd Place United States Air Force Academy; Graduate Track: 1st Place Western State University **Save the date for October 29, 2022
- UCCS Ethics Essay contest for Southern Colorado offered students from all Southern Colorado Ethics Consortium schools to earn $1000 for a winning essay.
- The 2022 Southern Colorado Ethics summit on April 29 in Pueblo Colorado had 89 attendees, with 63 in person at Pueblo Community College.
Looking forward to more opportunities to engage in ethics. Enjoy your summer!
