Engage with Ethics - February 2020

Do you feel ethics is a competitive advantage for you personally? Your reputation depends on how others perceive your trustworthiness – your integrity. Acting with integrity is a personal choice.

Consider Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television, who believed deeply in ethics, integrity and the importance of ethical principles. As an exceptionally honest and fair businessman, he always based his decisions on what he believed was right, not on what he thought was best for himself or his company. This attitude and style of conducting business earned Bill Daniels incredible respect and loyalty throughout the business world.

Employers want to hire trustworthy employees, but integrity is difficult to measure. Many companies do extensive background checks – and many include “culture” interviews where an HR professional has an informal meeting to determine if their values align with the organization. How can you demonstrate trust and integrity?

When we have conversations about ethics and integrity, we hold each other accountable to act with integrity in the workplace. Engage with ethics through the opportunities offered by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at UCCS College of Business and actively demonstrate your business integrity to employers and professionals.

Sincerely,
