The UCCS College of Business and Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado (BBB) are proud to partner to offer the Multi-Generational Professional Seminar Series, starting February 2019. This non-degree, 4-track seminar series offers strategies and tools for working with multiple generations, including attracting and retaining both employees and customers with a special focus on the Millennial and Gen Z generations.

About the Program

The UCCS College of Business and Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado (BBB) are proud to partner and to offer the Multi-Generational Professional Seminar Series, starting February 2019. The non-degree, 4-track seminar series offers strategies and tools for working and communicating with multiple generations, including attracting and retaining both employees and customers - with a special focus on Gen Z and the Millennial generation.

The intended audience includes community organizations and professionals within any generation. Your organization can transform by understanding the "why" behind stereotypes, needs and expectations of five generations - Gen Z, Millennials, Generation Xers, Baby Boomers, and Traditionalists - and, what you can do strategically to motivate your top talent and attract quality customers. The seminars are facilitated by exceptional UCCS business faculty members with expertise, experience and research focuses within the needs and expectations of each generation.

Professional Seminar Series Format:

The overall Multi-Generational Professional Seminar Series consists of four (4) separate tracks in leadership, management, and communication.  Each track contains three, 2-hour sessions spaced one week apart, and held on Thursday mornings.

 

Application of Learning:

This program is an executive education offering, meaning that it will include theory, research and evidence-based practices into the topics of conducting business with multi-generational employees and customers. The program will also cover strategies of how to apply the theory and evidence-based practices into your own organization and specific industry.

 

What you will receive upon completion:

If a participant attends and completes all sessions in a track, they will receive a Certificate of Completion from the UCCS College of Business, signed by the dean of the College.

Completion of the program can also be listed on resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

    It can be challenging to thrive in a workplace environment where you are one of the few in the Millennial generation. This two-part track is for employees and business leaders who are in the Millennial generation and may be underrepresented, or 'outnumbered' in their workplace.

    Many organizations have workforces that encompass three, even four, separate workplace generations. Finding the balance to obtain successful results from a multi-generational team can be challenging.This track will examine the differences in what motivates these workplace generations and how to develop a basic plan to bring the workplace generations together.

  • 10 Ways to Thrive as a Millennial in the Workplace

    This series covers strategies for not just marketing to Millennials, but building long-term relationships with them as customers. The focus is on developing trust, understanding loyalty, and meeting the unique needs of this critical market.

Meet the Program Facilitator
Scott Van Ness, MBA
Scott Van Ness is an Instructor of Operations Management at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). In this capacity, Scott teaches courses in Operations and Supply Chain Management, Quantitative Methods and Service Management.

Before coming to UCCS, Scott spent over 25 years working in the field of supply chain management and distributions operations. Scott spent 21 years in the US Air Force, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. In the Air Force, Scott served in numerous command positions, leading large organizations in the area of aircraft maintenance, supply chain management and logistics functions. Scott then worked for Target Corporation in corporate supply chain management. He currently owns a loan brokerage company, working with small businesses to finance for growth.

Scott’s area of emphasis and field of study in training has been working and leading the multigenerational workforce, specifically focusing on retaining and motivating the Millennial workplace generation. Although Scott’s training is foundationally research-based, his training is designed to give business and organization leaders real-world tools that they can apply and use in their organizations. Scott holds a BS and MBA in Business Administration and is pursuing a PhD in Organizational Behavior and Leadership.
