Student Ethics Ambassadors

The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS has created a unique opportunity for students to engage in the ethics initiative, partner with an ethics fellow, and gain program based work experience.  

Students who are selected to participate in this unique opportunity will be paired with a Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Fellow Faculty Member to create ethics programs, conferences, and/or curriculum to be delivered to UCCS and the greater southern Colorado DFEI community.

    Gregory Abukar-Duru

    Gregory Abukar-Duru is a junior at the University of Colorado Springs, Majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Pre–Law. He is part of several clubs on campus, not limited to High-Altitude Race Engineering, Law Society, American Criminal Justice Association, Club Rugby, Law School, Yes We Can !, and Student Government. He is an active member of his campus and engages with it as much as he can. After his undergraduate degree, he plans to attend Yale Law School to determine if he wants to continue his path toward public law or the private sector. He has networked with over 20+ lawyers and judges across Colorado as a whole and hopes to continue to network for the betterment of his future.

    My name is Maya Cafasso. I am from Michigan, but I consider Colorado my home. I am a senior studying Criminal Justice, hoping to pursue a career in the law field. Some of my hobbies include going hiking, reading, and just enjoying time outside with my dog. I am a mentor for the Mentor Collective Program at UCCS and I enjoy getting to know my fellow Mountain Lions! I look forward to being a member of the Ethics Ambassador Program.

    My name is Madeline Metzger, and I am a nursing major at UCCS. I am deeply involved in my major through various clubs and organizations at UCCS, and I hold a deep passion for holistic and research-based medicine. Personally, I am a huge bookworm and will read anything I get my hands on. I am also a very active person who has accepted the Colorado lifestyle of hiking and paddleboarding. Most of all, I am looking forward to working with Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, not only because it is an amazing opportunity, but also because of the wonderful community I know it will bring.

In addition to serving as a Student Ethics Ambassador, Braden works seasonally at Flying Horse North Golf Club and in UCCS University Development. Braden loves outdoor activities including golf, fly fishing, skiing, and hunting. His long-term goal is to stay in Colorado and become a PGA Head Golf Professional.

    Chase is a third year Bachelor of Innovation in Business Administration student. In addition to serving as a Student Ethics Ambassador, Chase also works alongside Tracy Gonzalez-Padron as a Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Assistant and is the president of the UCCS Ethics Club. Chase's hobbies include backpacking, skiing, and attending local events. His ultimate goal is to create a community-based start-up that uses ethical business practices to create opportunities for all.

    Averi is a fourth-year nursing student in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. As a Student Ethics Ambassador, she is working on an ethics toolkit for nursing students in order to get a stronger ethical education within the nursing program. Averi plans on working in an Emergency Department as a nurse and plans to continue her education to get her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) in healthcare ethics. As for hobbies, Averi enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with her pets: her dog, Rizzo, and her frogs.

    Michaela Herring is in pursuit of her MBA in Service Management at UCCS, with an expected graduation date of spring 2023. Her passion is centered around events and hospitality and is currently working full-time as the Assistant Director of Campus Services at Corban University in Salem, Oregon. Michaela’s hobbies include hiking, CrossFit and any other adventure that may present itself. She loves trying new things and challenging herself daily, but finds the most thrill in serving others well. Her ultimate goal is to have her own business where she can coordinate events that cultivate an unforgettable experience to all those who attend.

    Grace Martinez

     

    Grace is an MBA student studying International Business and will be graduating in the spring. In addition to serving as a Student Ethics Ambassadors, Grace is the Vice President of Ethics Club. Grace's hobbies include playing lacrosse, cooking, spending time with friends and family, and watching movies! Her long-term goal is to work abroad for a professional or Olympic team.

Bryana's hobbies and favorite activities are cooking, playing music, reading, writing, and spending time with her loved ones. She is very passionate about teaching ethical education within history and her long-term goals include expanding on this idea within the museum field as a Museum Educator.

  • Alisha Silkey

    Headshot of Alisha Silkey

     

    Alisha Silkey is a senior at UCCS studying psychology and this is her second semester as a student ethics ambassador. She is a member of the Chancellors Leadership Class and Psychology Honors Program. She works on campus as the program assistant for UCCSlead and as a research assistant in the Cognitive Development Lab and the Neuropsychology Cannabis and Adults Lab. After graduation, Alisha hopes to use all of the ethics knowledge she gained from her engagement in the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative as she pursues a doctorate degree in industrial organizational psychology.

    Sabrina Estrada

    Sabrina is currently a 2nd year Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at UCCS, currently focusing on experiential and equine-assisted psychotherapy. Prior to her beginning her graduate program, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Texas A&M University. Sabrina is currently a graduate assistant for Campus Connections, a therapeutic mentorship program within the College of Education. As well as, on the executive board for UCCS's Chi Upsilon Sigma chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international counseling academic and professional honor society. She is excited about the opportunity to serve as an ethics ambassador and what is in store for this academic year.

    Delaney is in her last year attending UCCS. She is pursuing a degree in accounting and a minor in management. During her time being an ambassador, she has attended many ethical events, participated in the annual case competition and met many people through her Student Center for the Public Trust Vice President position.

    Beth is currently a 2nd year School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at UCCS.   • Ari Oakes

    Ari is a student and a mother of two. Currently, she is pursuing her BA in Geography and Environmental Sustainability with hopes to graduate in 2024. Ari transferred to UCCS from a small community college in Iowa with an Associate's degree in Engineering to pursue studies that are simply unavailable in many areas of the midwest. She is a member of our WiCyS (Women in Cyber Security) student chapter, oSTEM (Out in STEM), Mountain Lion Cyber, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Spectrum. She is also a student assistant for our Cybersecurity Programs Office. Outside of UCCS, Ari is a member of the National Cybersecurity Alliance, cybHER, the Society of Women Engineers, and the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association (not to mention the national WiCyS, oSTEM, and AIAA organizations).

    Roxaly Diaz Delgado

    Roxaly Diaz Delgado is an international student from Venezuela who is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Innovation in Inclusive Early Childhood Education as a junior student. Alongside being an Ambassador for the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, Roxaly is also growing her leadership as a scholar in the Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) through intentful community service and focused leadership development. Additionally, Roxaly was also elected as the Senator for the College of Education for the upcoming 2020-2021 term within the Student Government Association (SGA) at UCCS. Above all, Roxaly is passionate about serving others as a leader and she is especially excited to continue to foster such skills as she embarks herself on this new journey as an Ethics Student Ambassador for the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.

    Kevin Dlugos

    This Fall, Kevin will enter his second year at UCCS, pursuing his Masters in Public Administration at the School of Public Affairs. Kevin spent the past few years working in the Non-Profit sector for Woza Soccer. He spent most of his time with Woza working on sustainable community development projects abroad in Costa Rica, using soccer as a tool to build relationships and catalyze social change. 

    Prior to his time with Woza, Kevin earned his Bachelors in Health Sciences at The Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington, where he played for the men’s soccer team. Soccer remains a constant in Kevin’s life as he hopes to return for his sixth year coaching both the Women’s and Men’s soccer teams at Manitou Springs High School.

    School of Public Affairs Ethics Case Bank

    The School of Public Affairs Ethics Case Bank is sponsored by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at the UCCS College of Business. The ethics case bank is the work of a 2020-2021 student ethics ambassador, Kevin Dlugos. Within the School Of Public Affairs ethics case bank are a number of cases that explore the unethical practices of government, public, and nonprofit sector organizations and administrators and apply Daniels Fund Ethics Principles, including integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law, and viability in the evaluation of these practices

    My name is Geffen Moser Ferszt, I am a Clinical Psychology Masters student here at UCCS.     I am beginning my second year of my double masters degree of Criminal Justice and Public Administration with a certificate in National Intelligence Security. I currently also work with the Office of First Year Experience as a Graduate Success Coach and love the opportunity to work with first year students! I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology from West Texas A&M University. After graduation from UCCS, my goal is to start my career as a Criminal Investigator with the end goal of becoming a Title IX Coordinator!     Shewli Ghosh

    Shewli Ghosh is pursuing a degree in Computer Science with interest in Cyber Security. Through the Daniels Fund Ethics initiative, Shewli plans on curating an in-depth knowledge of how to ensure safety and security in a world online. As a part of the UCCS track team and a women of color, Shewli is dedicated to making a difference through exploring ethics as an ambassador in the spring of 2021.

    In the spring of 2020, Delaney earned her associate degree and is very excited for her next chapter attending UCCS this fall. Having been given the opportunity to be a part of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Student Ambassador program she is excited to embark on the adventures that are part of this program.     I am academically sophomore at UCCS this year, however this is my first year attending UCCS. I am pursing a degree in nursing and am on the pre-nursing track as of now.     Morgan Pracht

    Morgan Pracht is a senior in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, majoring in Strategic Communication. After graduation, she plans to attend law school and work as a public interest lawyer, fighting for those who are underrepresented in the U.S. justice system. One of the highlights of her college experience was being among those selected to represent American college students on a trip to Israel.

    Throughout her time at UCCS, Morgan has competed with the Ethics Bowl team, which finds ethical solutions to real-world dilemmas. That experience has helped her to learn the value of ethics for making decisions and solving problems. She is thrilled to work with the Ethics Bowl team as a Student Ethics Ambassador.

    Ali Singer

    Ali Singer is pursuing her MBA with a Healthcare emphasis through the online program at UCCS. She works as a full-time pharmacist at Valley View Hospital and fills in part time at Colorado State Infusion. She has a passion for serving the underprivileged and making patients feel at ease during their hospital stay. Ali enjoys spending time with her husband, Bridger, and 3-year-old son, Bruce, by going on hikes, hunting, fishing, or any other form of physical activity. She looks forward to graduating in the fall of 2021 and pursuing a management position in pharmacy or the hospital setting.

    Gabriella Tachis<

    Gabby is a senior in the College of Business pursuing a degree in Sport Management. As an ethics ambassador, she will evaluate the governance of National Governing Bodies of sport to help ensure the safety of athletes and promote positive change within the Olympic Movement. She has seen the importance of ethics in sport with her time as an intern at the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency working towards the goal of clean sport. She is very excited to join the ethics ambassador program for the fall of 2020!

    AJ Vafiades

    Abigael (AJ) Vafiades is a Fall 2020 graduate in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Visual & Performing Arts with a dual concentration in Dance and Theater and a Management minor. She is the first Student Ethics Ambassador for the Theatre and Dance department. As an ambassador, she has been partnering with the chair of the department, Kevin Landis, to assist him with Prologue; a series of talks by esteemed guests in the theatre and dance world. She helps host discussions with the speakers covering prominent ethical issues and encourages other departments to attend and get involved with Prologue. She is also the Vice President for UCCS’s chapter of the Student Center for Public Trust.

    Noelle Windesheim

    Noelle Windesheim is a senior in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational and Strategic Communication with a minor in Leadership with plans to graduate in December 2020. Upon graduation she plans to go work for the National Park Service and be a Park Ranger. As a junior, she interned at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska. During her time there, she learned more about the world of ethics and ethical dilemmas and started to learn more about how to deal with ethical problems and come up with ethical solutions. Being a Student Ethics Ambassador brought an additional opportunity to continue to practice and learn about ethics.

    Lexie Greitzer

    Before beginning her graduate program here at UCCS, Lexie received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a minor in Exercise Science from Indiana University. Currently, she is a second year Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences student, pursuing her Master of Sciences in Sports Nutrition. 

    Lexie promotes wellness beyond her classes; she is a member of Sustainability, Wellness & Learning (SWELL) which is a campus food initiative as well as the Flying Carrot Food Literacy Program on campus. Additionally, she is an avid runner and was a UCCS Athlete on the Women's Cross County and Track and Field teams.

Solis, is set to graduate May 15, 2020, with a Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Services with a Clinical Mental Health Counseling/Addiction emphasis. She has received one of two Student Achievement Awards for the Spring 2020 graduating class. During her time at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs as a DFEI Student Ambassador, Abigail has implemented the DFEI principals in her work with Campus Connections. Campus Connections is a program ran by the UCCS Counseling Department that pairs UCCS students and community youth in mentor-mentee relationships throughout the semester, providing one-on-one therapeutic mentoring. Abigail has also applied the DFEI principals in her internship at the Mt. Carmel Veteran Service Center behavioral health program. Mt. Carmel Veteran Service Center is a non-profit organization that assists service members, veterans, and their family members with multiple supportive services, one of the services being behavioral health. After graduation, Abigail will work at Colorado Motion as a counselor with a predominantly youth population providing individual and experiential therapy. Abigail will be applying to PhD Counselor Education programs with the goal of becoming a professor one day.

  • AJ Vafiades

    AJ Vadiades

    Abigael (AJ) Vafiades is a Fall 2020 graduate in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Visual & Performing Arts with a dual concentration in Dance and Theater and a Management minor. She is the first Student Ethics Ambassador for the Theatre and Dance department. As an ambassador, she has been partnering with the chair of the department, Kevin Landis, to assist him with Prologue; a series of talks by esteemed guests in the theatre and dance world. She helps host discussions with the speakers covering prominent ethical issues and encourages other departments to attend and get involved with Prologue. She is also the Vice President for UCCS’s chapter of the Student Center for Public Trust.

  • Noelle Windesheim

    Noelle Windesheim

    Noelle Windesheim is a senior in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational and Strategic Communication with a minor in Leadership with plans to graduate in December 2020. Upon graduation she plans to go work for the National Park Service and be a Park Ranger. As a junior, she interned at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska. During her time there, she learned more about the world of ethics and ethical dilemmas and started to learn more about how to deal with ethical problems and come up with ethical solutions. Being a Student Ethics Ambassador brought an additional opportunity to continue to practice and learn about ethics.
